Pretty Things- Defunk

Defunk has done it once again, getting us up off our booty’s and onto our stompers to get down and dirty to the dreamy drops and din he delivers with this new deadly track, Pretty Things. He starts off with a bangin’ blues vibe that is smooth and sexy yet grimy and groovy, and then smacks you right in the face with a first class future funk heavy bass line that hits you in all the right places and leaves you no choice other than to throw down harder than you thought imaginable.

In true Defunk style, this track is pushing the boundaries of bass music and how we view it. Keeping the heavy bass line while infusing elements like blues, funk and groove brings a new sound and shows Defunk is continuing to make unique, fresh and flavourful music. I can’t wait to see what else he releases throughout the year, but for now I’ll be throwin’ down with friends to this wicked new track!

Peace and Love,

Sub Dude 4- DJ Surgeon

Hey party people! Its been a while but I’m back in full force with a banger mix by dj surgeon aka Rob Cutler out of Whistler, BC. This epic human is a local favourite in his town, he loves playing good music and making people dance and considers being a DJ a hobby rather than a job. He has a large library of mixtapes and usually puts out a new one every month, so get on Soundcloud and start following this legend!

Festival season is in full swing, which means costume planning, creating new playlists for the drive, and  going through the tickle trunk to find old lost treasures. What better way to get pumped up than throwing on a groovy, get down house mix!? That’s exactly what dj surgeon gave me when I pressed play on this bad boy. As I starting packing for Astral Harvest, it had me booty shakin’,  head bobbin, and using clothes as props while I threw them in my bag with a stoke level of 10 out 10.

If you have a festival or a summer adventure to pack for, do yourself a major favour and jam out to this magical mixtape while you get packed and pumped for wherever you may be going!

Happy Festival Season My Loves!

Crazy- Subvert feat. Cara May & Nightshade

Subvert is a bass heavy DJ and grandfather in the dubstep world. Although born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, he has played around the globe and earned his spot as a resident of the Village stage at Shambhala Music festival.

When Subvert started DJ’ing 16 years ago, a wise DJ told him something that stuck with him, “You’re not just playing music, you’re taking people on a journey.” Subvert clearly took this to heart and has proven this through his effort to cross boundaries through multiple styles of music to show people genres don’t matter as long as the bass and love are there.

This track, Crazy, was released in 2011 and has since been one of my favourite tracks to come from Subvert. The female vocals, lyrics, and heavy bass line is infectious and makes my inner bass face come out in full force. If you press play and don’t get low, head bang the beat, or feel the bass hit your face…. we can’t be friends.

JK!!..kind of

Much Love

Subsonic – Longwalkshortdock

There is no such thing as a track by LWSD that can accurately represent just exactly what goes down when he plays live. Dave King is the genius behind this music in which he has carved out his own genre called Deathno. To sum up his style in my own words, it’s a combination of crunchy death metal synthesizers mixed with old school video game noises mixed with a big badass dude screaming into a mic (that’s actually a stuffed shark) and slamming his fingers on numerous soundboards. Also, this guy dances harder than most of the people at his shows, which when combined with the insane visuals that also accompany his performance it amounts to an incredibly high energy, high volume, and highly memorable experience. This track is so old but so good and I much prefer it to the original by Excision…if you have proper speakers crank this tune LOUD and be sure to have a post game stretch 😀
