Shadowbox Tour 2017- Beats Antique

Ladies and gentleman I have for you a unique, groovy, soulful pre made playlist for your listening pleasures. Beats Antique have created this collection of tracks they have collaborated with others on and music they have enjoyed over this past 2017 year. It is like no other playlist I have listened to. Zoe Jakes, David Satori, and Sidecar Tommy, this Oakland based group have made a genre of their own, forging a curious alliance between middle eastern traditions and potent west coast circus, underground hip hop, breakfast brass band, down tempo, glitch and dubstep.

If you are lucky enough to live in a city that this tour is coming to, first of all get your tickets, and second listen to this playlist as many times as you please to get amped up for the wicked soul filling experience you are about to be a part of. The first time I had the pleasure of being a part of a Beats Antique show I walked away feeling re charged and warm inside, exploding with all good vibes and so much love.

My favourite track off this playlist is Beats Antique- Let It All Go (feat. Preservation Hall Jazz Band). It’s crunchy, classy, and catchy with that swingy jazz vibe that is right up my alley.  Take a listen to this 31 tremendous track selection and choose your favourite!

Much Love

Shambhala 2017 Mix – JPOD (the Beat Chef)

Oh my god, it’s JPOD! This has got to be one of the happiest, bounciest, and most positive humans on this planet. He’s been in the ghetto funk scene since its inception and never disappoints with his distinct wompy synths, groovy soulful remixes and energetic stage presence. I mean, the guy dances harder than a lot of the people who go to his shows, and I’ve always loved seeing somebody truly enjoy what they do – it’s a special and beautiful thing. If you’ve been to Shamb or Basscoast, you may have seen this guy rolling around on his off-road motorized skateboard or hamming it up with the legendary Stickybuds. JPOD is the epitome of a good time – always smiling, always stoked, and always throwing down some tasty tracks in his well rounded and well grounded mixes. From bangin’ original beats to reworks of notable artists like Al Green, Nappy Roots, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Stevie Wonder, and Sublime, JPOD consistently fills the dance floor and gets the good vibes flowing. If you’re feeling zesty, head on over to his YouTube channel and fill your auditory canals with his Mambo & Motown as well as the Blues & Bebop mixes from 2 and 3 years ago. I can personally guarantee you will not be disappointed. Happy Monday, and may the funk be with you!

Sunny – Sir Sway (Featurecast Remix)

Featurecast is a long standing legend in the world of electronic music. He has played all over the world and released tunage on numerous labels, growing and harvesting his funkified genre-blending style over the past decade. He’s most certainly a treat to see live, and you should keep an eye on his tour dates because he doesn’t shy away from small clubs either.

Sir Sway on the other hand is someone I don’t know much about, but judging by a quick scan at his Soundcloud bio, the guy’s a total boss. He opts to sum it up in one phrase: “Happy Music for Happy People.” Now that’s a motto I can get behind. Himself and DJ Incontrol run an events coordinating crew called BepobSwing – “As organisers, Sir Sway and Incontrol focus their attention on the expectations of the public, creating a subtle blend of sounds from jazz, electro-swing, funk, disco, with the Roaring Twenties aesthetics, the unexpected neo-burlesque And contemporary dynamics.” They also run electro-swing.com. , which is worth more than just a casual check out. Electro-Swing is alive and kicking hard my wonderful humans!

The track sampled by Sir Sway and Featurecast was sung by James Brown, the Godfather of Funk. However, the original cut was created by Bobby Hebb, and you can listen to live version here. I can’t help but smile and sing along – it has a contagious energy surrounding every note. This song is easily one of the most covered tracks in the history of modern music, with versions done by such artists as: Ray Connie, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Cher, Tom Jones, Jamiroquai, Del Shannon, Dusty Springfield, Frank Sinatra, Herb Alpert, Mark Ronson…the list is endless!

Ok. Enough writing for today…tune in and jam on to this little diddy. Just make sure to clear some space on the floor and watch your elbows on the fine china PRE-flail.

Home Is Where The Heart Beats- Vibe Street

O hey there Friday, I have been impatiently awaiting your arrival and those Friday feel good vibes you always seem to bring me. As I took a stroll on Soundcloud to find the perfect match to my mood I happened to turn onto Vibe Street and find just that. Sexy, spicy, sultry and the most smooth sound filled my ears and I couldn’t help but fall in love. The fusion of Electro-Glitchy-Hip Hop and Bluesy-Folk put the biggest smile on my face and I couldn’t help but get up and rock out.

Ben “Smiles” Davis is the  genius behind the fresh new flavour he has coined as “Grass-Hop/ Future- Folk”. Whether it’s an intimate show or a late night dance tent, Vibe Street is known to get the crowd feeling just right. Denver, CO is where he calls home, but with a sound so diverse he is gaining fans from across the world and from all different spectrums. Give him a follow and fill your soul with a refreshing dose of originality that you so desperately crave.

P.S. I couldn’t choose just one track, EP or Album so here is one of each!
